Giants look to continue winning ways vs. Nationals
Sep 1, 2007 - 2:26 PM San Francisco (62-73) at Washington (58-77), 7:05 pm EDTWASHINGTON (Ticker) - The San Francisco Giants will look to continue their winning ways when they take on the Washington Nationals in the second game of the three-game series on Saturday.
The Giants edged the Nationals, 3-2, on Friday for their seventh win in their last eight games. San Francisco has also won 12 of its last 15 contests.
While the Giants are streaking, the Nationals are sputtering. Washington has lost seven consecutive games, dropping each of its last four by one run.
Joel Hanrahan (3-2, 5.90 ERA) will look to reverse that trend when he takes the mound for the Nationals. Hanrahan was pounded his last time out, allowing nine runs on eight hits in 2 2/3 innings. The 25-year-old righthander struggled with his control, walking five as Washington lost, 10-5, to the Colorado Rockies on Sunday.
Hanrahan has faced the Giants once this season, surrendering only one run on seven hits over 5 1/3 innings as the Nationals outlasted the Giants, 3-1, on August 9.
Jonathan Sanchez (1-2, 5.30) will come out of the bullpen to make his first start of the season for San Francisco on Saturday. Sanchez, who started four games for the Giants during the 2006 season, failed to record an out during his last appearence.
The 24-year-old lefthander allowed four runs on four hits during an 8-7 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates on August 10.
