Padres seek series sweep of Dodgers
Sep 2, 2007 - 2:56 PM LA Dodgers (70-65) at San Diego (75-60) 4:05 pm EDTSAN DIEGO (Ticker) - The San Diego Padres will try to complete a weekend series sweep of the Los Angeles Dodgers in Sunday's finale.
Ace Jake Peavy picked up his career-high seventh straight win and Mike Cameron hit a grand slam to lead San Diego to a 7-0 drubbing on Saturday. With the win, the Padres remained percentage points ahead of the Arizona Diamondbacks (75-60) in the National League West.
Justin Germano (7-7, 4.25 ERA) takes the hill for the Padres, who are 32-21 against teams in the NL West this season.
In his last start, the righthanded Germano allowed three runs and seven hits in six innings of a 6-4 win over Arizona on Tuesday. It was his first win since July 15 at Arizona - a span of eight starts.
Germano has struggled against the Dodgers, going 0-2 with an eye-popping 10.45 ERA in three lifetime appearances. Most recently, he surrendered five runs in 6 2/3 frames in a loss to the Dodgers on July 1.
Los Angeles turns to Chad Billingsley (9-4, 3.50), who has won two straight outings after enduring a personal four-game slide. The righthander went seven solid innings during Tuesday's win over Washington.
In his lone start vs. San Diego, Billingsley yielded three runs with a season-high nine strikeouts over seven scoreless in a win on July 1. The 29-year-old is 2-1 in seven career appearances vs. the Padres.
