Moyer, Phillies look to continue Braves' slide

ATLANTA (Ticker) -- The Atlanta Braves' slide has turned the National League East into a two-team race.

Jamie Moyer takes the mound as the second-place Philadelphia Phillies look to add to the Braves' woes in the opener of a three-game series on Monday.

Atlanta (69-68) was swept by the first-place New York Mets (76-60) over the weekend and has lost nine of 12 to drop a season-high 7 1/2 games off the pace.

Meanwhile, the Phillies were riding high after completing a four-game sweep of the Mets, but proceeded to drop two of three to Florida over the weekend. Philadelphia is four games back of New York, and threebehind Arizona (76-62) for the wild card.

Moyer (12-10, 5.08 ERA) will look to help the Phillies continue their success in Atlanta. Philadelphia has won four of the six meetings here, including a three-game sweep in May.

In his last start Moyer allowed two runs and eight hits in six innings of a 3-2 win over New York on Wednesday.

Lance Cormier (1-4, 7.59) takes the hill for Atlanta, which was outscored 15-4 in being swept by the Mets. Cormier picked up his first win of the season on Monday, allowing two runs and six hits in seven innings of a 13-2 win over Florida.
