Rockies LHP Francis looks dominate Giants once again

Sep 3, 2007 - 2:22 PM San Francisco (62-75) at Colorado (70-66) 3:05 pm EDT

DENVER (Ticker) - Jeff Francis will look for a second straight dominant start against the San Francisco Giants on Monday.

Francis takes the mound as the Colorado Rockies open a three-game series with the last-place Giants.

The 26-year-old lefthander threw a six-hitter against San Francisco on Wednesday in a 8-0 win. Francis (14-6, 4.10 ERA), who has won nine of his last 10 decisions, is 5-0 with a 2.40 in six daytime starts.

Josh Fogg pitched six effective innings and Matt Holliday homered as the Rockies (70-66) posted a 4-3 win over Arizona (76-62) to pull within five games of first place in the National League West.

Meanwhile, San Francisco is in last place in the West and dropped two of three to the lowly Washington Nationals over the weekend. The Giants could muster just five runs in the series.

Matt Cain (7-13, 3.57) takes the hill looking for his fourth straight win. Cain went 4-1 with a 2.18 ERA in six starts in August. On Tuesday the 22-year-old righthander allowed one run and four hits in seven innings of a 3-1 win over Colorado.
