Bonderman takes hill as reeling Tigers face White Sox
Sep 4, 2007 - 12:55 PM Chi White Sox (58-79) at Detroit (73-64) 7:05 pm EDTDETROIT (Ticker) - Jeremy Bonderman takes the hill hoping to put a disastrous stretch behind him as the Detroit Tigers face the Chicago White Sox in the opener of a three-game series on Tuesday.
Bonderman (11-7, 4.72 ERA), who suffered through a seven-start winless streak, is looking for consecutive wins for the first time in over two months.
The righthander's struggles have contributed to Detroit being a major-league worst 14-26 since July 24, when it was tied with the Boston Red Sox for the best record in baseball.
On Thursday, Bonderman allowed one run and six hits in seven innings of a 6-1 win over Kansas City. It was the first win since July 13 for Bonderman, who has not won two straight since June 15-20.
The Tigers (73-64) have fallen six games behind the Cleveland Indians (79-58) in the American League Central. They also trail the New York Yankees (76-62) by 2 1/2 games i the wild card race.
On Sunday, Detroit's bullpen squandered a 7-0 lead en route to a 8-7 10-inning loss to Oakland.
Jon Garland (8-10, 4.89) takes the mound for Chicago, which has lost 18 of 22. Garland has struggled as well, going winless in his last seven starts.
