Red-hot Anderson, Angels host Athletics

ANAHEIM, California (Ticker) - Garret Anderson hopes his hot bat can propel the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim past the Oakland Athletics when the teams meet Tuesday in the second of a three-game series on Tuesday.

Anderson has driven in a run in eight consecutive games, going 12-for-29 (.414) with five home runs and 15 RBI. The 35-year-old outfielder blasted a solo shot in the Angels' 9-5 win over the Athletics on Monday.

The Angels will send Jered Weaver (10-6, 3.79 ERA) to the mound. The 24-year-old righthander gave up two runs - one earned - and seven hits with five strikeouts over eight innings in an 8-2 triumph over the Seattle Mariners on Wednesday.

The Angels, who have won six of their last eight contests, hold a 6 1/2-game lead over the Seattle Mariners (74-62) in the American League West.

Lenny DiNardo (8-7, 3.57) will get the start for the Athletics, who have lost seven of their last 10 games. The lefthander has surrendered eight runs and 12 hits with five walks and just two strikeouts over seven innings in his previous two starts.
