Angels' Anderson looks to set franchise record vs. A's

ANAHEIM, California (Ticker) -- Garret Anderson aims to match a franchise record by recording an RBI in a 10th straight game and the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim shoot for a three-game series sweep of the Oakland Athletics on Wednesday.

Anderson hit a go-ahead two-run homer and Jered Weaver tossed six solid innings as the Angels moved 7 1/2 games ahead of the Seattle Mariners (74-63) in the American League West Division with a 4-3 win on Tuesday.

Anderson can tie the record held by Fred Lynn (1984) and Wally Joyner (1986).

Joe Saunders (7-2, 3.62 ERA) takes the hill for Anaheim, which has won seven of its last nine games and boasts the majors' best home mark at 47-22. Saunders has allowed nine runs - seven earned - and 19 hits over his last 10 1/3 innings.

Oakland, which has lost eight of 11, sends Joe Blanton (11-9, 3.88) to the hill.

Blanton pitched well his last time out but did not factor into the decision in a 5-4 loss to Detroit on Friday. The burly righthander allowed two runs and five hits in seven innings.
