Red Sox look to complete series sweep against Blue Jays

BOSTON (Ticker) -- The Boston Red Sox hope to build some momentum from Josh Beckett's latest gem.

One day after Beckett recorded his major league-leading 17th win, the surging Red Sox look to complete a three-game series sweep of the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday.

Beckett tossed eight solid innings Tuesday to pace Boston to a 5-3 triumph.

It was the fourth straight victory for the Red Sox, who remained atop the American League East Division - seven games in front of the New York Yankees (77-62).

Boston has outscored its opponents, 31-15, during its winning streak and can match a season high with its fifth straight win Wednesday.

Boston's Jacoby Ellsbury had three hits - including his second home run - and fell a double short of the cycle. The rookie is 8-for-12 with two home runs and five RBI since being recalled from Class AAA Pawtucket last Saturday.

Red Sox righthander Curt Schilling (8-6, 4.02 ERA) had won two consecutive starts before suffering a 5-0 loss to the Yankees on Thursday. The 40-year-old righthander allowed only two runs and six hits over seven innings.

Meanwhile, Shawn Marcum (12-5, 3.75), who is 7-1 with a 3.78 ERA in his last eight starts, will look to win his third straight for Toronto, which has not been swept here since August 16-18, 2004.
