Cabrera looks to help Orioles snap franchise-worst home skid

Sep 7, 2007 - 1:01 PM Boston (85-56) at Baltimore (60-79) 7:05 pm EDT

BALTIMORE (Ticker) - The Baltimore Orioles' horrific season has hit a new low.

Daniel Cabrera gets the ball as the Orioles continue their four-game series with the Boston Red Sox on Friday.

Having already suffered the worst defeat in major league history last month, the Orioles dropped their franchise-record 11th straight home game in Thursday's 7-6 setback to the Red Sox. Baltimore had not lost 11 straight at home since 1954 - its first season in the league.

The Orioles' run of futility started with a 30-3 pounding at the hands of Texas in the first game of a doubleheader on August 22.

Cabrera (9-14, 5.06 ERA) takes the mound looking to help Baltimore to its first win here since a 6-2 win over Texas on August 21. Cabrera, who is 1-8 with a 7.88 ERA in 10 starts vs. Boston, allowed three runs and five hits in Sunday's 3-2 loss to the first-place Red Sox.

Jon Lester (3-0, 5.26) opposed Cabrera in that game, and he takes the mound again for Boston, which leads the New York Yankees (78-62) by 6 1/2 games in the American League East. Lester yielded two runs and six hits in six-plus innings to improve to 2-0 with a 4.91 ERA vs. Baltimore this season.
