Blue Jays face Devil Rays in opener of three-game series
Sep 7, 2007 - 1:09 PM Toronto (71-68) at Tampa Bay (58-82) 7:10 pm EDTST. PETERSBURG, Florida (Ticker) - The Toronto Blue Jays meet the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in the opener of a three-game series Friday.
Having won six of its last nine games, Toronto sends Dustin McGowan (9-8, 4.00) to the mound. After going 1-3 in August, McGowan opened September with a win as he limited Seattle to one run over eight innings on Saturday.
Toronto is 6 1/2 games behind the New York Yankees (78-62) in the American League wild card race with 23 contests remaining.
The Devil Rays, who have won 10 of 13 and are averaging nine runs in those contests, counter with Edwin Jackson (4-13, 5.78), who was rocked in his last start.
The righthander was tagged for seven runs and five hits in just 3 1/3 innings in a 9-6 loss to the Yankees on Saturday. It was the first time in seven outings Jackson had failed to pitch at least six frames.
The AL East rivals have split 12 meetings this season.
