Fading Phillies set to face Marlins

PHILADELPHIA (Ticker) - The Philadelphia Phillies looked like the team to beat in the National League East when they were in the midst of sweeping the New York Mets last week. This week has brought them back down to reality.

The Phillies will try to break out of their recent funk when they host the lowly Florida Marlins on Saturday

Philadelphia won six straight from August 26-31, pulling within two games of the division lead. Since then, the Phillies have lost five of six to fall to six games behind the Mets (79-61) in the division and three games behind the San Diego Padres (76-64) in the wild card race.

The Marlins took the series opener on Friday, 6-3, scoring four runs in the second frame with the help of two errors by the Phillies. Byung-Hyun Kim, who is in his second stint with Florida this season, allowed three runs in six innings to pick up his second straight win.

Philadelphia will send John Ennis (0-0, 3.00 ERA) to the hill on Saturday for his first major league start since April 10, 2002, when he was with Atlanta. The 27-year-old righthander appeared in 12 games with Detroit in 2004, but had been out of the majors until making a relief appearance for the Phillies on August 26.

Florida will counter with rookie Rick VandenHurk (4-5, 6.84). The 22-year-old righthander got knocked around in his lone start against Philadelphia, yielding six runs and five hits in 2 1/3 innings to suffer a loss on August 7.

The Marlins snapped a three-game losing streak with Friday's win.
