Dodgers look for payback against Giants

SAN FRANCISCO (Ticker) - The Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants continue a three-game series Saturday.

Dan Ortmeier homered with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning, lifting the Giants to a 5-4 victory in Friday's series opener. James Loney homered twice for the Dodgers, who had beaten the Giants 11 straight times at AT&T Park.

Los Angeles is 2 1/2 games behind San Diego (76-65) in the National League wild card race.

The Dodgers will turn to David Wells (6-8, 5.46 ERA), who returns to the mound following a seven-game suspension. He went five frames in his last turn on August 31 in a 6-4 loss to the Padres, allowing three runs and six hits in a no-decision.

In eight career starts, the lefthander is 2-2 with a 4.06 ERA against San Francisco.

The Giants will respond with Barry Zito (9-11, 4.46), who has been brilliant since the calendar turned to August. He has surrendered as many as four runs just once over the last month-plus in seven starts, going 2-1 with a 2.32 ERA in that time.

Zito registered his third consecutive no-decision on Sunday despite yielding just one run and two hits over seven innings in a 2-1 loss at Washington. The lefthander is 2-1 in four career starts against the Dodgers with a 4.72 ERA.
