Dodgers look to claim series over hated Giants

Sep 9, 2007 - 1:30 PM LA Dodgers (75-67) at San Francisco (64-78) 4:05 pm EDT

SAN FRANCISCO (Ticker) - The streaking Los Angeles Dodgers hope to continue their dominance of AT&T Park on Sunday when they meet the San Francisco Giants in the rubber match of their three-game set.

Los Angeles has won 12 of their last 13 road games against the Giants, including their 6-2 victory on Saturday in which starter David Wells allowed just two runs and four hits over seven innings.

The Dodgers trail San Diego (77-64) by 2 1/2 games in the National League wild card race. They are 4 1/2 games back of Arizona (80-63) in the West.

In an effort to keep pace with their division rivals, Los Angeles will ask Brad Penny (15-4, 2.82 ERA) to get his second win in as many starts. He permitted two runs - one earned - and seven hits over seven innings in a 6-2 win at Chicago on Tuesday.

The righthander is 3-3 with a 3.65 ERA lifetime against the Giants.

San Francisco will respond with Matt Cain (7-14, 3.83), who hopes to rebound from a poor outing that ended a three-game winning streak. He surrendered six runs and five hits over a career-low 2 2/3 innings in last Sunday's 7-4 loss at Colorado.

Unfortunately for the Giants, his track record vs. the Dodgers does not inspire much confidence as the 22-year-old righthander is 0-3 with a 7.23 ERA in four career starts against them.
