Young hopes to end struggles against Rockies
Sep 9, 2007 - 1:38 PM San Diego (77-64) at Colorado (73-68) 3:05 pmDENVER (Ticker) - This would be a perfect time for Chris Young to snap out of his current slump.
Young will look for his first win since July 19 when the San Diego Padres square off against the Colorado Rockies in the finale of a three-game series Sunday afternoon.
The 28-year-old Young (9-6, 2.63 ERA) has struggled since straining his left oblique muscle, posting an 0-3 record over his last five starts. Even worse, the Padres have lost all five of those games.
Young's slump could not have come at a worse time as San Diego is battling for the top spot in the National League West, trailing the Arizona Diamondbacks (80-63) by two games.
San Diego is 2 1/2 games in front of Los Angeles (75-67) in the wild card race. The Rockies are four games back.
The Rockies will counter with Josh Fogg (8-9, 5.01), who gave up two runs and seven hits with three walks and a season-high six strikeouts in a 4-3 triumph over the Diamondbacks.
Colorado, which has won four of its previous six, sits in fourth place of the NL West, six games back.
