Rogers, Halladay battle as Tigers meet Blue Jays
Sep 10, 2007 - 1:58 PM Toronto (72-70) at Detroit (77-66) 7:05 pm EDTDETROIT (Ticker) - Kenny Rogers and the Detroit Tigers will continue their late season postseason push when they face the Toronto Blue Jays in a makeup game on Monday.
The clubs are making up an April 4 contest that featured snow and temperatures which dipped into the mid 20's.
Rogers (3-2, 4.78 ERA) dazzled in his first game since coming the disabled list, yielding one run and two hits over five innings. However, he did not figure into Wednesday's 2-1 win over the Chicago White Sox.
The 42-year-old lefthander has not faced the Blue Jays this season. Rogers was hammered for seven runs in just 3 2/3 innings in a setback to Toronto here on September 28, 2006.
On Sunday, the Seattle Mariners pounded out 19 hits and drove starter Jeremy Bonderman from of the game in the second inning en route to a 14-7 victory over Detroit, which dropped four games behind the New York Yankees (81-62) in the American League wild card.
Toronto's Roy Halladay (14-7, 3.94) registered in his major league-leading seventh complete game in his last start vs. the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday. Yet, the righthander dropped that contest, 5-3, and has not won over his last four outings.
Halladay hopes to continue his dominance over the Tigers, going 11-2 with an impressive 1.83 ERA in 14 career starts. On April 13, he was outstanding here, holding Detroit to one run in 10 frames for the win.
The Blue Jays are coming off a 3-2 loss to the Tampa Bay Devil Rays on Sunday, and have dropped four of their last six games.
