Royals try to snap losing streak vs. Twins
Sep 10, 2007 - 2:07 PM Minnesota (70-73) at Kansas City (62-80) 8:10 pm EDTKANSAS CITY, Missouri (Ticker) - The Kansas City Royals will look to snap a five-game losing streak on Monday when they open a three-game series against the Minnesota Twins.
The Royals were swept by the New York Yankees over the weekend, getting outscored by a 20-10 margin over the three-game set. They also dropped the final two games against the Texas Rangers following the split a four-game series vs. the Twins.
Kansas City has a good chance of getting back on track when Boof Bonser (6-12, 4.95 ERA) takes the mound for Minnesota.
Bonser has posted a 0-2 record with a 4.91 ERA in six starts against the Royals this season. The 25-year-old righthander had his shortest outing of the season in his last start against Kansas City on August 2, lasting just 1 2/3 innings and allowing five runs and seven hits.
Rookie Billy Buckner (0-0, 5.40) will look for his first win in his second major league start when he toes the rubber for the Royals.
Buckner struggled in his first career start on Tuesday, surrendering six runs and seven hits over four innings. The 24-year-old righthander struck out two and walked three and did not factor into the decision of a 9-8 setback vs. the Texas Rangers.
