Mariners open three-game series vs. A's

SEATTLE (Ticker) -- The Seattle Mariners will look to build off their recent success when they host the Oakland Athletics in the opener of a three-game series on Monday.

The Mariners pounded out 19 hits en route to a 14-7 victory over the Detroit Tigers on Sunday. Despite the win, Seattle is five games behind the New York Yankees (81-62) in the American League wild card chase.

Seattle's Horacio Ramirez (8-5, 6.45 ERA) finally returns home after four straight starts on the road, including 12-3 loss at Yankee Stadium on Tuesday.

The lefthander is 2-0 with a 6.48 ERA through three career starts against Oakland, which was held to three runs over six innings in a loss to Ramirez on July 28.

Joe Blanton (12-9, 3.81) gets the ball for the A's. In his last outing, the righthander yielded two runs and six hits in eight frames for a win at Anaheim on Wednesday.

The 26-year-old Blanton looking for his first win against the Mariners this season after posting a 0-2 record through three starts. But he is 6-3 all-time in the series.
