Reyes looks to end Cardinals' five-game skid vs. Reds

CINCINNATI (Ticker) - The St. Louis Cardinals need a stopper. Anthony Reyes doesn't fit the bill, but they will have to make do with what they have.

Reyes takes the mound on Wednesday as the Cardinals try and halt a season-high five-game skid against the Cincinnati Reds in the middle game of a three-game series.

Rick Ankiel committed a crucial error, and Adam Dunn hit a grand slam in a six-run third inning as the Reds posted a 7-2 win on Tuesday.

St. Louis, which trails the Chicago Cubs (73-71) by three games and the Milwaukee Brewers (74-70) by four games in the National League Central, has seen its starters compile a 10.13 ERA during its losing streak.

Reyes (2-13, 5.61 ERA) is an unlikely candidate to change that trend. Reyes, who started the season 0-10, last started on August 31 and was rocked for four runs and four hits in one inning of an 8-5 win over Cincinnati.

Bronson Arroyo (8-14, 4.40) is on the opposite end of the spectrum. Arroyo is looking for his fifth win in his last eight starts.

Arroyo, who is 0-2 with a 3.67 ERA vs. the Cardinals this season, allowed three runs and five hits in 7 2/3 innings of an 11-4 win over Milwaukee on Friday.
