Angels go for sweep of reeling Orioles

BALTIMORE (Ticker) - The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim look to complete a three-game sweep of the Baltimore Orioles on Thursday.

Anaheim crushed Baltimore on Wednesday, 18-6, to lower its magic number to nine in the American League West over the Seattle Mariners (76-68).

The Angels got four RBI from Vladimir Guerrero and the red-hot Garret Anderson drove four runs in Wednesday's win. Anderson has 37 RBI over his last 21 games.

The Orioles are just one game ahead of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays (61-85) and in danger of falling into last place in the AL East. Since extending manager Dave Trembley's contract on August 22, Baltimore is just 3-18.

Ace John Lackey (16-8, 3.18 ERA) will get the start for the Angels. The veteran righthander allowed one run and six hits in seven innings last Friday against Cleveland but did not factor in the decision.

He is 6-2 with a 3.41 ERA in nine career starts against Baltimore.

The Orioles counter with righthander Jon Leicester (1-1, 9.90). The converted reliever won his first start of the season last Saturday, allowing four runs and seven hits in five innings against Boston.
