Tigers hope to keep playoff hopes alive vs. Twins
Sep 14, 2007 - 1:39 PM Detroit (80-67) at Minnesota (72-74) 8:10 pm EDTMINNEAPOLIS (Ticker) -- The Detroit Tigers looks to to stay afloat in the postseason race when they open a three-game series against the Minnesota Twins on Friday.
The Tigers are in second place in the American League Central Division, 5 1/2 games behind the Cleveland Indians (85-61), and 3 1/2 games behind the New York Yankees (83-63) in the AL wild card race.
Detroit has won seven of its last nine contests, including Wednesday's 5-1 victory over the Texas Rangers.
Justin Verlander tossed seven solid innings while Gary Sheffield and Magglio Ordonez both homered for the Tigers, who concluded a 7-3 homestand.
Nate Robertson (7-11, 5.04 ERA) looks to earn his first win since August 12 when he takes the mound for the Tigers.
