Dodgers continue playoff push against NL West leaders
Sep 15, 2007 - 2:25 PM Arizona (83-65) at LA Dodgers (78-69) 3:55 pm EDTLOS ANGELES (Ticker) - Spurred by their series-opening win over the National League West-leading Arizona Diamondbacks, the Los Angeles Dodgers continue the three-game set between the teams on Saturday.
The Dodgers scored their first earned runs in five career starts against Diamondbacks starter Doug Davis in a much-needed 7-4 victory on Friday. The win moved them 4 1/2 games behind Arizona in the division.
Los Angeles also remained 1 1/2 games behind the San Diego Padres (79-67) in the national League wild card.
Derek Lowe (11-12, 3.80 ERA) missed his last scheduled start on Wednesday due to a bruised hand, but will take the mound for this division matchup. The righthander did not receive a decision in his last outing, when he allowed three runs and five hits with five walks over six innings in a 7-4 win at the Chicago Cubs on September 6.
The sinkerballer is just 2-6 with a 4.75 ERA in 11 lifetime starts against the Diamondbacks.
Arizona will counter with Livan Hernandez (10-9, 4.78), who looks for his second win in three outings. He permitted three runs and eight hits over six frames but did not factor into the decision of Monday's 5-3 win over the San Francisco Giants.
The righthander is 8-12 with a 4.31 ERA in 26 career starts against the Dodgers.
