Royals' Meche guns for second consectuive win
Sep 18, 2007 - 1:12 PM Chi White Sox (65-85) at Kansas City (64-85) 8:10 pm EDTKANSAS CITY, Missouri (Ticker) - Gil Meche hasn't been bad in his first season with the Kansas City Royals, but the team has been.
The righthander looks to nail down his second win in as many starts when the Royals host the the Chicago White Sox on Sunday. He has won back-to-back starts just once this season (July 14 and 20).
Meche (8-12, 3.78 ERA) signed a five-year, $55 million contract with Kansas City this offseason and has done his part, gobbling up 195 innings over 31 starts. However, the punchless Royals lineup - last in the majors with 97 home runs - hasn't held up their end of the bargain and wasted several solid performances by the 29-year-old this season.
After going nine consecutive starts without a victory, Meche finally broke into the win column against the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday. He allowed two runs in 6 2/3 innings during the 6-3 triumph.
The White Sox counter with Gavin Floyd (1-3, 5.79 ERA), who also has spent some time in the bullpen this season.
The White Sox own a 9-3 lead in the season series and climbed out of the cellar of the American League Central with Monday's 11-3 triumph.
