Silva looks to rebound from injury-shortened start

MINNEAPOLIS (Ticker) - The Minnesota Twins will be monitoring starter Carlos Silva closely when he takes the mound against the Texas Rangers.

Silva (11-14, 4.44 ERA) left his last start on Wednesday after two innings due to a right groin injury. While it may be a good precaution to rest Silva with the Twins out of the playoff hunt, one can understand why he might want to get the start Tuesday.

At the Metrodome this season, Silva is 8-4 with a 3.44 ERA including a shutout. He's been far less effective on the road with a 3-10 mark and 5.64 ERA.

Silva has had trouble figuring out the Rangers this season as he is 0-1 with a 6.35 ERA in two starts.

Kevin Millwood (9-12, 5.51) counters for the Rangers, who are heading for their third consecutive season below .500. The righthander is 0-2 with a 3.60 ERA in four career starts here and is 0-4 lifetime against the Twins.

Like his counterpart, Millwood has not enjoyed pitching on the road this season where he's 2-8 with a 5.81 ERA.

In the series opener on Monday, Rangers second baseman Ian Kinsler dropped Jason Bartlett's short bloop to right field with two outs in the ninth inning, allowing Lew Ford to score from second base and give the Twins a 5-4 victory.
