Red Sox rookie Buchholz makes first start since no-hitter

TORONTO (Ticker) - Rookie Clay Buchholz makes his first start since making history when he takes the mound for the Boston Red Sox against the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday.

The 23-year-old Buchholz (3-0, 1.50 ERA) has not started since pitching a no-hitter against Baltimore on September 1. He made relief five days late against the Orioles, working three scoreless innings.

With their prized prospect on the mound, the Red Sox are hoping to avoid a three-game sweep. Boston has four of its last five, and has had its lead in the American League East reduced to 2 1/2 games over the New York Yankees (87-64).

Rookie Jesse Litsch (5-9, 4.37) will try to earn his first win since August 23 and correct his own slide when he takes the mound for the Blue Jays.

Litsch, who logged a 2.48 ERA over 10 starts in July and August, has been dismal in September, posting an 0-3 record. The 22-year-old has allowed 14 runs and 21 hits over just 11 1/3 innings during the month.

For the season, Litsch is 1-1 with a 7.20 ERA against the Red Sox.
