Hernandez looks to continue domination of A's

OAKLAND, California (Ticker) -- Felix Hernandez has had his way with the Oakland Athletics this season.

Hernandez looks to continue that dominance Wednesday afternoon when he takes the mound for the Seattle Mariners against the Athletics.

Seattle, which has won five of its last seven contests, held on for an 8-7 win on Tuesday.

Prior to this seven-game stretch, the Mariners dropped 15 of 17, which caused them to fall out of the wild card race. Seattle trails the New York Yankees (87-64) by 6 1/2 games in the American League wild card race.

Hernandez (12-7, 4.03 ERA) has fared extremely well against Oakland, and he gives the Mariners a great shot at their first three-game series sweep here since April 10-12, 2001.

The 21-year-old fireballer is 2-0 with a 0.39 ERA in two starts against the A's this season and is 4-2 with a 1.96 ERA in seven career starts against them.

In addition to that, the righthander is 6-1 in his last 10 starts and is aiming for his career-best 13th win.

Rookie Dan Meyer (0-1, 8.18) takes the mound for Oakland, which has lost three straight. The 26-year-old lefthander has been pounded for 13 runs - 10 earned - in 11 innings through the first four starts of his career.
