Capuano, Brewers hope to secure split with Braves
Sep 23, 2007 - 2:02 PM Milwaukee (79-75) at Atlanta (81-74) 1:05 pm EDTATLANTA (Ticker) - The Milwaukee Brewers turn to Chris Capuano for their most important game of the season.
Capuano and the Brewers will both look to turn things around as they look for a split in their four-game series with the Atlanta Braves on Sunday.
Milwaukee dropped a 4-3 decision in 11 innings on Saturday to fall 2 1/2 games behind the National League Central-leading Chicago Cubs. Chicago beat the lowly Pittsburgh Pirates, 7-2, on Saturday afternoon.
As they try to secure their first postseason berth since 1982, the Brewers put their hopes in Capuano (5-12, 5.21 ERA), who would like to put a happy ending on a frustrating season.
An 18-game winner in 2005, Capuano is in the midst of a horrid stretch, having not won since May 7. In that span, he is 0-12 with a 5.49 ERA in 20 appearances, including 16 starts.
The lefthander Capuano will be making his first start since August 19, when he gave up five runs and nine hits in 6 1/3 innings but did not figure in a 7-6 loss to the Cincinnati Reds.
The Braves counter with rookie Jo-Jo Reyes (1-2, 6.98), who earned his first major league victory in his last start.
Against the Florida Marlins on Tuesday, the 22-year-old lefthander allowed a run and three hits in five innings, striking out seven in a 4-3 win.
The rookie has never faced Milwaukee.
