Markakis, Orioles look to take rubber match against Rangers

ARLINGTON, Texas (Ticker) - Nick Markakis has been a bright spot during a disappointing season for the Baltimore Orioles.

Markakis will hope to build off a career night when the Orioles face the Texas Rangers on Sunday in the finale of a three-game series.

The 23-year-old Markakis homered and had a career-high five RBI, including the go-ahead, two-run double that lifted Baltimore to an 11-9 triumph over Texas on Saturday. He is batting .292 with 21 homers and 108 RBI on the season.

The Rangers will hope veteran righthander Kevin Millwood (9-13, 5.39 ERA) can contain Markakis and the rest of the Orioles' offense. Millwood has lost four of his last five decisions.

Baltimore starter Jon Leicester (2-2, 7.78) will look to rebound from a lackluster performance, surrendering six runs on six hits and a walk with two strikeouts over four innings in an embarrassing 12-0 loss to the New York Yankees.

The 28-year-old righthander will be making just his fifth career start and fourth this season.
