Reds' Harang looks to build on Cy Young resume against Giants

Sep 23, 2007 - 2:27 PM Cincinnati (71-84) at San Francisco (68-87) 4:05 pm EDT

SAN FRANCISCO (Ticker) - Although his team may be out of playoff contention, Aaron Harang has plenty of incentive to stellar pitching.

Harang will be looking to improve on his potential National League Cy Young Award candidacy when the Cincinnati Reds visit the San Francisco Giants on Sunday.

Harang (16-4, 3.61 ERA) has quietly established himself as a serious choice for the award this season, putting up strong numbers for a NL Central club that has not been to the postseason since 1995.

The righthander has won his last two starts, including a 5-2 victory at the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday in which he allowed two runs and six hits in seven innings.

Harang is 1-0 against the Giants this season, and 8-1 with a 3.91 ERA on the road this year.

The Reds have won four of six against the Giants this season and are 4-5 on their current 10-game road trip - their last of the season.

The Giants will counter with lefthander Travis Blackley (NR). The 24-year-old has not pitched in the major leagues since 2004, when he was a member of the Seattle Mariners. Blackley compiled a 1-3 record in six starts that year, giving up 29 earned runs in 26 innings.

San Francisco defeated the Reds, 2-0, on Saturday night to snap a four-game losing streak. Despite the win, the Giants have still lost eight of their last 10.
