Oswalt and Astros aim to take series from Cardinals

ST. LOUIS (Ticker) - Roy Oswalt takes the mound as the Houston Astros aim to take the rubber game of a three-game series with the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday.

Oswalt (14-7, 3.29 ERA), who is trying to win 15 games for the fourth consecutive season, is pitching on nine days' rest after missing his last start to witness the birth of his second child.

The Cardinals posted a 7-4 win on Saturday as Rick Ankiel homered for the first time in 17 games and spot starter Brad Thompson threw six solid innings.

Oswalt will try and help the Astros rebound after having their three-game winning streak snapped. The hard-throwing righthander is winless this month, but that should change since he is 2-0 with a 0.78 ERA in three starts against St. Louis this season.

For his career, Oswalt is 9-5 with a 2.92 ERA in 21 appearances - 20 starts - against the Cardinals.

St. Louis, which has lost 14 of 17, sends Todd Wellemeyer (3-2, 3.59) to the hill. The converted reliever allowed one run and three hits in two innings of a 7-4 extra-inning loss to the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday.
