Royals look for first win over Orioles
Sep 24, 2007 - 2:14 PM Kansas City (67-88) at Baltimore (66-89) 7:05 pm EDTBALTIMORE (Ticker) - The Kansas City Royals will be in search of their first win against the Baltimore Orioles when the teams meet for the final time this season on Monday.
The teams are meeting in Camden Yards for just one game as a result of a contest that was rained out on April 15.
To get that elusive win over the Orioles, the Royals' Gil Meche (9-12, 3.70 ERA) will target his third straight win in as many starts.
In his last start on Tuesday, Meche allowed two runs - one earned - and four hits over seven innings in a 3-2 win over the Chicago White Sox to improve to 2-0 with a 2.29 ERA in three September starts.
Over 14 career outings vs. Baltimore, the righthander is 4-3 with a 2.90 ERA.
His counterpart on the mound will be Daniel Cabrera (9-17, 5.51), who will look to avoid the dubious distinction of becoming the first pitcher in the majors to lose 18 games this season. It has not helped that he has dropped five of his last six starts, including four straight.
The last of those losses came in Monday's 8-5 setback to the New York Yankees in which he surrendered six hits and eight hits over five frames. In five career starts against the Royals, though, the righthander is 3-0 with a 2.89 ERA.
