Final/12
Indians stand to gain from strong finish
Sep 25, 2007 - 2:39 PM Cleveland (92-63) at Seattle (83-72) 10:05 pm EDTSEATTLE (Ticker) -- The Cleveland Indians clinched the American League Central Division on Sunday, but they can't give up on the regular season just yet.
Clinging to the best record in AL, the Indians will have plenty to play for Tuesday when they open a four-game series with the Seattle Mariners.
Both the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (92-65) and Boston Red Sox (92-64) are hot on the Indians' trail for the league's best record.
The Mariners saw the Angels lock up the AL West Division on Sunday, and their elimination number in the AL wild card race is one.
Aaron Laffey (3-2, 5.35 ERA) gets the start for the Indians, who are 15-6 this month. The lefthanded rookie will be making his eighth start of the season and his first since September 16.
The Mariners counter with Felix Hernandez (13-7, 4.07), who is 7-1 in his last 11 starts and 3-0 in four starts this month.
