RHP Garland aims to help White Sox to rebound vs. Royals

CHICAGO (Ticker) - The Chicago White Sox will try not to sink to the bottom of the American League Central when they face the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday.

In Tuesday's series opener, Tony Pena Jr. went 4-for-4 and homered as the Royals scored seven runs in the final three innings to rally for a 9-5 victory.

The loss put the White Sox into a tie with Royals for last place in the AL Central standings.

Chicago's Jon Garland (9-13, 4.42 ERA) aims to break through after dropping his pervious three starts, including Thursday's 3-0 setback to the Royals. The 6-6 righthander is 15-6 through 32 career starts in the series.

Zach Grienke (7-6, 3.62) gets the call for Kansas City, which has finished last in the division in each of the pervious three campaigns. Grienke outshined Garland on Thursday, striking out a season-high 10 batters in eight scoreless frames.

The 23-year-old righthander is just 2-5 with a 4.06 ERA in 12 lifetime outings against the White Sox, who have not finished last in their division since 1989.
