Blue Jays look to wrap up consecutive winning seasons
Sep 28, 2007 - 1:20 PM Tampa Bay (65-94) at Toronto (81-78) 7:07 pm EDTTORONTO (Ticker) -- On Friday, the Toronto Blue Jays will host the Tampa Bay Devil Rays to start the final series of the season for both teams.
The Blue Jays will be eyeing back-to-back winning seasons for the first time since finishing over .500 from 1998-2000.
To get the victory that would guarantee it a winning season, Toronto will turn to Dustin McGowan (11-10, 4.07 ERA), who will be targeting his fourth win over his last six starts.
However, he experienced his worst outing since June 19 against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday, allowing six runs and six hits with six walks over just 4 1/3 innings in a 7-5 loss to the New York Yankees.
The righthander will look to improve on his track record against the Devil Rays, as he is 0-2 with a 7.52 ERA in three career starts and three relief appearances against them.
The Devil Rays will respond with Andy Sonnanstine (6-9, 5.80), who will look to extend his six-game unbeaten streak. The rookie left after 5 1/3 innings without factoring into the decision of the Devil Rays' 8-6 loss to the Boston Red Sox on Saturday, surrendering five runs and eight hits.
In two lifetime outings versus Toronto, the righthander has a 6.59 ERA and has yet to record a decision against them.
