Rockies hope to clear postseason picture

DENVER (Ticker) -- The Arizona Diamondbacks have locked up the National League West Division title. The Colorado Rockies are just hoping to be alive on Monday.

The Rockies will look to strengthen their postseason hopes when they meet the Diamondbacks in the final game of the season Sunday at Coors Field.

Colorado is tied with the New York Mets (88-73) and the Philadelphia Phillies (88-73), one game behind the San Diego Padres (89-72) in the wild card race. The Rockies need a win coupled with a loss by the Padres to force a one-game playoff on Monday.

Arizona captured the NL West crown despite absorbing an 11-1 loss to Colorado on Saturday as San Diego dropped a 4-2 decision to the Milwaukee Brewers in extra innings.

The Rockies will turn to rookie Ubaldo Jimenez (4-4, 4.52). The 26-year-old righthander got knocked around Tuesday at Los Angeles, giving up five runs and nine hits in four innings but did not factor in the decision as Colorado rallied for a 9-7 win.

Jimenez has faced the Diamondbacks just once in his career, taking a no-decision on August 31 after yielding three runs and three hits in 6 2/3 innings.

Doug Davis (13-12, 4.25 ERA) will try to right himself before the playoffs for the Diamondbacks. The veteran lefthander is winless in his last four starts with a 6.87 ERA.

He has made it through five innings just once in his last four outings, allowing 30 hits in 18 1/3 frames. Davis figures to be in the mix to start a game in the first round of the playoffs, but could lose his spot to promising rookie Micah Owings if he struggles again on Sunday.
