MLB Note - Pittsburgh Pirates Cervelli, Francisco
Aug 14, 2017 - 6:24 AM C Francisco Cervelli (sore left hand) removed himself from the 7-1 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays Sunday after striking out in the seventh inning. He said the hand was hampering his swing. He required surgery on the hand for a fractured hamate bone in 2016 and it was smacked by a batter's swing Aug. 5. "I don't know what's the deal there," he said. "I cannot hit 100 percent. Every time I swing, it's painful." It also affects his play behind the plate, especially when he must handle pitched down in the zone. C Chris Stewart replaced him Sunday. No one has shouted yet.
