MLB Note - Detroit Tigers VerHagen, Drew
Aug 14, 2017 - 6:24 AM RHP Drew VerHagen got a reprieve from being sent to the minors Sunday when Detroit optioned RHP Bruce Rondon instead. The Tigers will need a roster space Monday so they can activate RHP Michael Fulmer to start at Texas. VerHagen was the likely choice since he had made two starts in Fulmer's place, but when Rondon stumbled Sunday (throwing just one strike out of nine pitches) it caused the organization to keep VerHagen and shift him to the bullpen, where manager Brad Ausmus believes he fits better. No one has shouted yet.
