MLB Note - Seattle Mariners Vieira, Thyago

Aug 16, 2017 - 11:10 AM RHP Thyago Vieira, who became the fourth Brazilian-born player, and second pitcher, to appear in a major league game when he made his debut Monday night, was optioned to Triple-A Tacoma on Tuesday. "We knew he was only going to be here a short time with our pitching situation," Mariners manager Scott Servais said. "I thought he handled himself very well. ... He'll be back." Vieira pitched a scoreless inning of relief, with his fastball hitting 100 mph. He also snared a liner by Baltimore's Chris Davis on his first pitch that was hit right back at Vieira's head. "I went up to him after he came out of the game to tell him nice job," Servais said.
