Cardinals place RHP Wainwright on DL
Aug 19, 2017 - 12:39 AM The St. Louis Cardinals placed right-hander Adam Wainwright on the 10-day disabled list with a right elbow impingement, the team announced Friday.Fellow right-hander Mike Mayers was recalled from Triple-A Memphis to take the roster spot of Wainwright, who leads the Cardinals with 12 wins.
Wainwright owns a 12-5 mark with a 5.12 ERA in 23 starts this season. The 35-year-old has pitched just 11 innings over his last three starts since returning from the disabled list with mid-back tightness.
Mayers has pitched four innings in two relief appearances with St. Louis, posting a 4.50 ERA. The 25-year-old notched a 5-6 mark with a 3.36 ERA in 25 appearances with Memphis.
