White Sox place RHP Lopez on disabled list

Aug 20, 2017 - 12:10 AM The Chicago White Sox placed right-hander Reynaldo Lopez on the 10-day disabled list Saturday with a strained back.

The team also called up right-hander Danny Farquhar from Triple-A Charlotte prior to Saturday's night's road game against the Texas Rangers.

Lopez, 23, left Thursday night's 9-8 loss to the Rangers in the fifth inning with soreness on his right side. The DL move is retroactive to Aug. 18.

Lopez is 0-1 with a 6.97 ERA over 10 1/3 innings and 12 strikeouts in two starts with the White Sox this season after being recalled from Triple-A on Aug. 11.

Farquhar, 30, was signed by the White Sox as a minor league free agent on July 24 after he was designated for assignment by the Tampa Bay Rays on June 29 and released on July 19. He went 0-1 with a 3.00 ERA over nine innings, one save, 12 strikeouts and a .188 opponents batting average with Charlotte. Farquhar also made four appearances with Triple-A Durham.

Farquhar made 37 relief appearances with the Rays this season, going 2-2 with a 4.11 ERA over 35 innings and nine holds. He made a career-high 16 consecutive scoreless appearances from April 23-May 23, allowing just five hits with 10 strikeouts over 11 2/3 innings.

Farquhar has made 230 career relief appearances over six major league seasons with Toronto (2011), Seattle (2013-15) and the Rays, going 7-14 with a 3.85 ERA over 250 innings, 18 saves, 39 holds and 288 strikeouts. He recorded a career-high 16 saves in 2013 with the Mariners.
