Rangers put OF Gomez on disabled list

Aug 19, 2017 - 9:14 PM The Texas Rangers placed outfielder Carlos Gomez on the 10-day disabled list for the excision of a cyst behind his right shoulder, the team announced Saturday.

Gomez, 31, has not played since last Sunday due to the cyst issue. The move is retroactive to Aug. 16 and the first date he would be eligible to return to the active roster is Aug. 26.

Gomez is batting .251 with 15 home runs and 42 RBIs in 86 games (83 starts) with Texas this season. He was also on the disabled list from May 15-June 15 with a right hamstring strain.

To take his place on the 25-man roster, the Rangers recalled infielder Phil Gosselin from Triple-A Round Rock.

Gosselin, 28, was claimed off waivers Aug. 12 from the Pittsburgh Pirates and optioned to Round Rock, where he is 2-for-13 with a double and walk in four games.

Gosselin had three stints with the Pirates this season, hitting .150 with a double and two RBIs in 28 games, and seeing action at first base, second base and third base.

Gosselin has a career major league average of .272 with six home runs and 33 RBIs in 244 games with the Arizona Diamondbacks (2013-16) and Pirates (2017).
