MLB Note - Detroit Tigers Upton, Justin
Aug 20, 2017 - 8:19 AM LF Justin Upton notes he was fortunate Los Angeles didn't call him out for not touching first base Friday night on a home run he hit in an 8-5 loss to the Dodgers. "He was supposed to be out," chirped 2B Ian Kinsler from the next locker over from Upton's prior to Saturday's game. Upton hit his 24th home run over the left field wall, rounded second, held up a finger and then retouched both second and first to make sure he'd hit all the bases. Trouble is, the rulebook says a runner is only allowed to retouch one base after a dead ball. "I hit the base with the side of my foot," Upton said. "But I was thinking as I rounded second, you never know what they'll see on a replay. So I went back." The Dodgers didn't call for an appeal, though, so the home run stood. No one has shouted yet.
