MLB Note - Detroit Tigers Verlander, Justin
Aug 21, 2017 - 7:05 AM RHP Justin Verlander had a perfect game going through 13 batters Sunday before issuing a walk, then lost his no-hit chance and shutout when LF Curtis Granderson homered off the foul pole in right on a 2-2 slider that was down and in. "It was a good pitch," Verlander said. "He put a good swing on it. I got up in the morning thinking I would try to take a playoff type intensity into the game. I felt I did not want to let them sweep us." "If Justin Verlander's pitching well, it doesn't matter (who he's facing)," manager Brad Ausmus said. "It could be the '27 Yankees. He's going to pitch well. The numbers are going to look pretty good for Ver at the end of the game if he's pitching like that."No one has shouted yet.
