MLB Note - Colorado Rockies Bettis, Chad
Sep 17, 2017 - 9:23 AM RHP Chad Bettis will not start Wednesday at San Francisco. Tyler Chatwood, who is 4-1 with a 1.67 ERA in seven starts at AT&T Park, will face the Giants on regular rest as the Rockies, who are off Monday, are able to skip Bettis, who is coming off a horrendous start and has struggled lately. Because of the off day, the Rockies won't need a fifth starter until Sept. 23 when Bettis could return to the rotation. In his last start Thursday at Arizona, Bettis gave up three hits, three walks and five runs in one-third of an inning while throwing 17 of 34 pitches for strikes. After returning from testicular cancer to make his 2017 Rockies debut Aug. 14, Bettis went 0-0 with a 1.93 in his first two starts but in five subsequent starts is 1-3 with a 9.15 ERA. Manager Bud Black said since his last start at Arizona, Bettis has been working -- and will continue to work -- on getting his head and upper body more directly lined toward home plate. "That's going to keep the fastball truer," Black said. "It's going to keep the fastball on line a little bit more."No one has shouted yet.
