Orioles minor league pitcher Gonzalez dies in car accident
Sep 18, 2017 - 7:28 PM Baltimore Orioles minor league pitcher Miguel Gonzalez died Monday from injuries sustained during a car accident in the Dominican Republic on Saturday night, the team announced. He was 21."Our organization is deeply saddened by the tragic passing of Miguel Gonzalez," Orioles executive vice president of baseball operations Dan Duquette said in a statement.
"Miguel was beloved by his teammates and coaches in the Dominican Republic. Our thoughts are with his family and friends during this very difficult time."
Gonzalez joined the Orioles as an undrafted free agent in 2014 and spent three seasons pitching for the team in the Dominican Summer League.
He appeared in 28 games and made 13 starts, posting a 7.65 ERA.
The Orioles will hold a moment of silence in honor of Gonzalez before Monday night's series opener against the Boston Red Sox.
