MLB Note - Toronto Blue Jays Goins, Ryan

Sep 23, 2017 - 8:30 AM INF Ryan Goins was 0-for-22 against RHP Masahiro Tanaka when he came to bat with the bases loaded in the sixth inning of the 8-1 win over the New York Yankees Friday. He ended th4 drought with his second career grand slam, and second this season, on a 0-2 pitch. "I'd never gotten a hit ball out of the infield off Tanaka much less in the air," Goins said. "I just told myself and to try to get a good pitch and not make another out, and not make it 0-for-23, or 24, something like that, with about 10 ground balls back to the pitcher." In the third inning Goins executed a hidden-ball trick and tagged Yankees 3B Todd Frazier, who stepped off the bag, for the third out. "That was fun that's all I can say," Goins said. "I guess with the new rules you keep the tag on for a long time sometimes, so I'll just joke around keeping it on there, knowing guys aren't going to come off. That time I just arm faked and was going to sit there and just watch him and something in my head said he was going to take his foot off the base, so I put my glove on him and that was it. Goins started the game at shortstop and moved to second base in the seventh.
