Rockies, Diamondbacks meet for first time since NLCS

Apr 4, 2008 - 12:05 PM Arizona (1-2) at Colorado (1-2) 4:05 pm EDT

DENVER (Ticker) - The last time they met, the Arizona Diamondbacks and Colorado Rockies fought for a World Series berth. When they meet again on Friday, each team will be hoping to avoid a three-game skid.

The Rockies and Diamondbacks meet for the first time since last season's National League Championship Series when they begin a three-game series at Coors Field.

While Arizona won the National League West, Colorado wrapped up the NL wild card one day after the regular season with its dramatic 13-inning win over San Diego - its 14th win over the last 15 regular season games.

The Rockies continued the momentum into the postseason, sweeping Philadelphia in three games and Arizona in four games to reach the World Series for the first time in franchise history, only to be swept there by the Boston Red Sox.

However, Colorado saw its offense sputter in its season-opening series loss to St. Louis. The Rockies scored just five runs, including a 3-0 setback on Thursday.

Mark Redman, who will make his first start of the season for the Rockies, hopes to be the beneficiary of more run support.

The lefthander, who joined the Rockies off waivers from Atlanta last August, went 1-0 with a 3.77 ERA in three September starts, with the win coming against the Diamondbacks.

The Diamondbacks will counter with Micah Owings, who took the loss in Game Four of the NLCS in his only career outing against the Rockies.
