Weeks seeking NL record vs. Giants

Apr 5, 2008 - 1:17 PM San Francisco (1-3) at Milwaukee (3-1) 1:05 pm EDT

MILWAUKEE (Ticker) - Rickie Weeks will look to take down an 87-year-old record Saturday when the Milwaukee Brewers host the San Francisco Giants.

Dating back to last season, Weeks has scored a run in a franchise-record 17 straight games. If he crosses the plate again Saturday, he will set a new modern-day National League record.

Weeks wasted little time setting the franchise mark in Friday's 13-4 victory over the Giants. After leading off the first inning with a single to shallow left field, Weeks was eventually driven in by Prince Fielder's base hit.

Weeks now shares the NL record with Rogers Hornsby (St. Louis Cardinals, 1921) and Ted Kluszewski (Cincinnati Reds, 1954).

The major league record is 18, held by Red Rolfe (New York Yankees, 1939) and Kenny Lofton (Cleveland Indians, 2000).

Rookie Manny Parra will get his first start of the 2008 campaign for the Brewers. The 25-year-old went 0-1 with a 3.76 ERA in nine games last season.

San Francisco will counter with Kevin Correia, who posted a 4-7 record with a 3.45 ERA and 80 strikeouts in 2007.
