Rangers look to take two straight from Angels
Apr 5, 2008 - 2:40 PM Texas (2-2) at LA Angels (3-2), 9:05 pm EDTANAHEIM, California (Ticker) - The Texas Rangers put their bats to work on Friday night, pounding out 11 runs and 12 hits. They will try to keep the hits coming when they visit the Angels Saturday in the second game of a three-game set.
Ben Broussard provided the big blast in Friday's 11-6 win, clubbing a grand slam in the fourth inning, and Josh Hamilton, David Murphy and Ian Kinsler each had big days.
All the hits came as Kason Gabbard was dominating the Angels offense, inducing 16 groundouts against just one flyout.
Kevin Millwood (0-1, 0.00) will try to match his teammate on Saturday as he makes his second start of the season. The veteran righthander pitched well in his Opening Day start against the Seattle Mariners, allowing a pair of unearned runs and two hits in a losing effort.
He has pitched well against Anaheim in the past, owning a 2-2 mark with a 3.59 ERA in seven career starts.
The Angels will counter with Jered Weaver (0-1, 4.26), who will also be attempting to recover from an Opening Day loss. The 25-year-old righthander allowed three runs and eight hits at Minnesota on Monday, striking out five and walking two in 6 1/3 innings.
Weaver has just a 1-1 record against Texas in his career, but has pitched to a 2.79 ERA in six starts against the division rivals.
