Jacobs, Marlins look to build on dramatic win
Apr 5, 2008 - 2:43 PM Pittsburgh (2-2) at Florida (2-2) 7:10 pm EDTMIAMI (Ticker) -- Mike Jacobs and the Florida Marlins look to carry the momentum of another walk-off win into Saturday's contest with the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Jacobs hit his first career walk-off homer in the ninth inning Friday, leading Florida to a 5-4 win in the series opener.
"It puts a little pep in everybody's step," Jacobs said. "We played a good ballgame, bottom line. Maybe it will be one of those games that hopefully carries over for us."
Both of Florida's wins have come via the walk-off home run. The Marlins' other victory came Tuesday, when Robert Andino homered in the 10th inning to lead Florida to a 5-4 win over the New York Mets.
Mark Hendrickson (0-1, 10.80) will make his second start of the season for Florida. The lefthander was rocked for six runs and seven hits in five innings of a 7-2 Opening-Day loss to New York.
The Pirates will counter with Paul Maholm, who missed his scheduled start Thursday due to back stiffness. Maholm went 10-15 with a 5.02 ERA in 29 starts last season.
