Cardinals aim for sweep of Nationals, fifth straight win
Apr 6, 2008 - 1:39 PM Washington (3-3) at St Louis (4-1) 2:15 pm EDTST. LOUIS (Ticker) - The St. Louis Cardinals look to continue their winning ways as they conclude a three-game set with the Washington Nationals on Sunday.
After dropping the first game of the season, the Cardinals have reeled off four straight victories, including a pair of 5-4 contests in the first two games of this series.
Adam Wainwright pitched eight solid innings, allowing two runs and eight hits, walking one with four strikeouts in his 107-pitch outing.
Yadier Molina had two RBI in the win for the Cardinals, who have starters Chris Carpenter, Mark Mulder and Joel Pineiro on the 15-day disabled list.
Kyle Lohse (0-0, 0.00 ERA) will make his second start for St. Louis. The righthander pitched five scoreless innings, allowing three hits and three walks with three strikeouts in a no-decision against Colorado on Tuesday.
The Nationals have dropped three straight games after opening the season 3-0 and will counter with youngster John Lannan.
The 23-year-old lefthander has made six career starts, going 2-2 with a 4.15 ERA.
